Tecnis IOL Ft. Lauderdale - TECNIS™ Multifocal IOL

Tecnis Multifocal Intraocular Lens, made by Abbot Medical Optics, is a presbyopia correcting lens implant, which works to provide patients with a full range of vision following cataract surgery. The Tecnis Multifocal Intraocular Lens can also be used to reduce the need for reading glasses, and in this case, the natural lens of the eye is removed prior to the implantation of Tecnis Multifocal.

Tecnis Multifocal is designed to provide multiple focal points simultaneously, for far, intermediate, and near vision. Tecnis Multifocal is the latest addition to the multifocal intraocular lens implants available in the United States, and since its release, Tecnis Multifocal has high remarks from patients. Like other presbyopia correcting lens implants, Tecnis Multifocal has its own unique set of properties.

During the surgery procedure the lens is inserted through a tiny incision in the eye. This surgery follows the same cataract surgery process used with other lens implants known as phacoemulsification. During this procedure the crystalline lens is broken up using ultrasonic waves. The crystalline lens is the part of the eye behind the cornea that can thicken over time and become cloudy, forming cataracts that obstruct vision. During the procedure, the unhealthy crystalline lens is broken up into minute fragments and the tiny pieces are then vacuumed away. The next process involves the insertion of the TECNIS™ Multifocal IOL. The lens is inserted through a small incision in the eye and unfolds into the appropriate position. This new lens will ultimately correct both nearsightedness and farsightedness.

Medicare & The Tecnis IOL

With monofocal cataract surgery Medicare reimbursement is standard and now a new medicare initiative on lens implants allows patients to upgrade to the full range of vision provided by this new IOL. Please discuss any Medicare issues and payment options directly with the doctors at our practice. The traditional costs associated with cataract surgery will still be covered by Medicare.
